Over the years, a considerable body of case law has developed to assist with the interpretation and application of Part VIII of the Law Practitioners Act 1982. That legislation has now of course been superseded by the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and various rules promulgated pursuant to the Act.
As many of the cases revolve around procedural issues, most are now of historical interest only. However, there are still a number of decisions which lucidly and succinctly spell out aspects of the law relating to the pricing of legal services, which remain as relevant and as helpful today as when they were first published.
We will, over the following months, be selecting the best of these and incorporating them on this page of our website. In the meantime, we begin with two very helpful decisions - 1 New Zealand and 1 English.
